Getting the Most Out of Your iPhone's Music Features

Apple Music has various features that make it easy to download and stream music. If you have never used the music app before, you should take time to explore it.

For example, the Library will contain all your playlists, albums, and songs. You can use Search to look for music.

In Listen Now you will see the songs you played recently and get suggestions based on your listening history.

Enable automatic download

If you want to download a song, playlist, or album from Apple Music the process is simple.

  • Tap on the Add (+) button and it transforms into a Download button.
  • Tap on the button to start the download.

You can make the process a step faster by enabling Automatic Downloads. Anything you add to your Library is automatically downloaded to your iOS device. If you open up Settings and go to the Music section you can enable Automatic Downloads. You will need to enable iCloud Music Library for this to work.

Optimize storage and reduce clutter

If you turn on Automatic Downloads your storage will fill up quickly. To optimize storage you can go to Settings > Music, and tap Optimize Storage.

You can select the number of gigabytes you want to store on your device. For example, if you select 32GB and you run out of storage space, your iPhone will automatically start to delete old songs you haven’t listened to for a long time.

You may want to hide apps on your iPhone to reduce clutter or for privacy reasons. It only takes a few steps to hide apps on your iPhone without deleting them.

Find the app you want to hide on the Home Screen and hold your finger on it. A menu of options will appear and you can tap Remove App.

The app remains on your iPhone and when you need it again you can go to the App Library to find it and re-add it to the Home Screen.

Go directly to an artist or album

Apple Music allows you to go directly to an artist or an album from the Now Playing view.

  • Tap on the artist’s name or album’s name
  • A pop-up menu will appear.
  • Select Go to Artist or Go to Album.
  • If a song features more than one artist, you will be taken to the first one.

View song lyrics on your iPhone

How you view lyrics on your iPhone will depend on factors such as the music streaming service you use. There are various ways you can view lyrics without having to use a third-party app.

How to view lyrics:

  • Go to the Music app and play the song.
  • Tap the Lyrics icon in the Now Playing bar.
  • You will see the synced lyrics as the song continues.
  • Tap to display the playback controls if you need them.

To search with Lyrics:

  • Go to the Search tab and type or speak into the microphone.
  • Choose between Apple Music and your Library to find a song with matching lyrics.

To share lyrics you can long-press on those you want to share. They will show up on separate screens and you can share them via social media, messages, etc.

Check out premade playlists

There are pre-made playlists assembled for you and you can skip over songs you don’t like.

  • Tap the Browse Tab at the bottom of the home page in the Music app.
  • Scroll through options from your favorite musical decade to music by mood.
  • Choose the playlist you want to hear and tap the Play button.

If there’s a song you’d like to keep, tap the three dots to the right of it and add it to your Library. This means you can always find it in your Library, even if you delete the playlist.

Conclusion

The above features are just a few of many that can help you to get the most out of listening to music when using your iPhone.

Whether you want to access song lyrics, optimize storage, or check out premade playlists, there are many ways to make the most of the Music app.
